History

The short history of Pomerland in the Spanish canine world began in 1989 with minor participations in dog shows with the intention of exhibiting the beauty of dogs, presenting breeds from Northern Europe like Samoyeds and Siberian Huskies from the Villaodón line.

Although until then my only contact with dogs had been with animals of undefined breed, very special memories of their devout affection and exceptional natures roused in me a deep interest in the canine world.

Little by little the passion for the different breeds came into play and, in spite of their great beauty, the connection with the Nordic breeds was not sufficiently fulfilling.  In 1995 we decided to buy a pair of Rottweilers but, unfortunately, both died from a virus at a young age.

It was then that we acquired our first two black Giant Schnauzers.  We were so fascinated by their excellent character that we decided to buy our first black Giant Schnauzer show dog, Multi Ch. Atenea de la Sierra Malacitana, a magnificent female.  After two or three years of intensive work she won the titles of Champion of Spain, Champion of Portugal, Champion of Gibraltar and C.E.S. Champion as well as being awarded several BIS, Best of Group II  (Working) and an uncountable amount of CAC and CACIB points.

The accumulation of such a large number of awards propelled us into the inside world and understanding of the Giant Schnauzer Breed.

Soon, we bought the dog that was to become one of our best bitches, Urbe de Pichera.  She is found in almost all our dogs’ pedigrees and was directly responsible for our first litter of this fabulous breed.

When we began to breed Giant Schnauzers, it was very clear to us that the best dogs of this breed were to be found in Spain.  It was the golden age of  the Giants in our country when dogs like Ch. Ziko de Campos de Oro, Ch. Acxel de Campos de Oro, Ch. Zara de Pichera and Ch. Fripper de Pichera were elevated to international status in the canine world.

Our breeding efforts were based on these dogs by using their reproductive values for our litters through direct descendents of their bloodlines with dogs such as Ch. Ziko de Campos de Oro, Ch. Don de Pechera, Ch. Baldrich del Badulake, Ch. Tahúr de Pechera and Ch. Unjedi Asterix among others.

However, in a few years we began to observe that the level of quality of the  Giant Schnauzer in Spain was progressively declining and little by little the dogs being presented for show were losing more and more of the characteristics and temperament typical of the breed.  As we thought this could be the result of inbreeding, we decided to seek males from open bloodlines with different aspects to vary a little from the bloodlines found in our country.  This was when we started to use dogs such as Ch. Murphy, Ch. Sultán, de Ventacán, Ch. Coke del Candamo and Campany Star Black de Cusini “Unjedi Kimbo”

We finally decided that the only way to take a definite step towards improving the quality of our dogs was to go beyond our borders and import dogs with totally different bloodlines.  This was the case of Ch. Refrain Against Wind, a male from Finland, Gloris Privatte Collection, a Russian bitch and Dgently Bon Chelsey, another Russian bitch.

Furthermore, we also bred our bitches with some magnificent dogs of foreign bloodlines including Ch. Zamorano’s Picasso, considered as one of the best Giant Schnauzers of all times in England and Ch. Ramos V. Lobbachttal also considered one of the best breeding dogs in Germany.

With the loss of Pushin on June 11, 2008, our expectations for him vanished, but little by little we are recovering with a large number of magnificent dogs, direct descendents of his including Ch. Merlin de Pomerland, that when only 19 months old was the youngest champion of Spain, Ch. África de Pomerland, Osa II de Pomerland, Warner de Pomerland, Winny de Pomerland, Ch. Yesterday de Pomerland, Remix de Pomerland, Eureka de los Chulapos and Ch. Emir de los Chulapos who is competing in Ukrania with an excellent career of dog shows.

We are reinforcing our desire to forge ahead even more with granddogs of Puskin like Rammstein de Pomerland, Rihanna de Pomerland, Vendetta de Pomerland, Punky de Pomerland and Just A Little Bit of Pomerland.  The latter bitch is being shown for beauty as well as working sports events.

We would like to add to all these successes, our greatest personal pride, our son Ignacio Manzano Grochmalicka born on April 21, 2008.  We hope he will be the one who in the near future will help us with our task and in a future a bit further away will continue to enjoy our hobby.

Finally, it has been a huge effort, a lot of work, great personal, professional and economical sacrifice, a tremendous amount of expectations and twenty years of our lives dedicated almost completely to the world of dogs throughout which we have acquired a lot of know-how and experience and a large number of friends to whom we will be eternally grateful for the exquisite hospitality offered to us and to our dogs.
